A Pirate's Life for me

Last night I proudly continued the family tradition of looking as ridiculous as possible whenever it comes to fancy dress. It was 3rd and 4th year dinner and the theme was Heroes and Villains. Naturally I went as a villain, my proclivity for evil long-established by my computer’s tendency to correct ‘Evie’ to ‘evil’. Talk about a complex. I decided upon the loveable rogue, Captain Hook. Not least because I already owned all elements of this costume, barring the hook (and the tash). I think we can all agree that I looked fabulous. Wearing such an enormous wig for an evening has really brought out a desire for long, luscious locks in me. Worryingly I now also really feel the desire to grow a full-blown moustache (as opposed to a smattering of upper lip hair). A girl can dream.

I must admit that the tash - however integral it was to the outfit - did get rather in the way of food and drink. It became quite the struggle to transport soufflé from my spoon into my mouth without leaving a heavy deposit behind on my dashing whiskers. Hence I made the decision, difficult though it was, to abandon my moustache, and proceed with the eating and drinking in a more typical and tidy fashion.

What I have learnt from this evening is that a Pirate’s Life may well actually be for me. Those long, luscious locks. The power vested in my sword. Those damn sexy knee-high compression socks (thank you for those, Corin), and of course that dashing tash. The rum, yes the rum, that I am on board with. Beautiful desert islands, sailing the high seas. Swash-buckling and ‘arrghing’ an awful lot. The flashy personality of a pirate. It all fits really. I mean the violence and the theft, I would have to overlook. I could sacrifice my morality for that haircut any day.
