Today is my Grandma's birthday. It's funny how sometimes we have to be reminded to celebrate the people in our lives, but in this whirlwind we call life I do appreciate a nudge from time to time. And I need no excuse to celebrate my grandma, because my grandma is amazing. Plain and simple. And I guess maybe it's because we're British, or maybe it's because I've just grown up with her that way and so I've taken it for granted, but I know I don't tell her nearly enough.

She'll say I inherited my brains from her - and to be honest I have never dared disagree - and I know for certain I got my sense of style direct from Stella (via my mum, of course!). What I hate to admit, but evidence makes it impossible to deny, is that my Grandma was far cooler when she was my age than I ever was! I mean just look at those shades...

One thing I want to celebrate in this short but sweet post (like one of grandma's infamous fairy cakes) is her sense of humour. She has an amazing ability to seek and find joy and share that joy with others constantly. She's incredibly cheeky - as is my grandad - and the twinkle in her eye is something I'll be chasing after till I'm older and far wrinklier than she is now (seriously, I hope I've inherited those age-defying genetics). But not only does my Grandma win every style contest going, with a scarf to match every outfit, she also embraces looking silly, which is 100% the Butcher way.

However, one thing I KNOW I didn't inherit - much to my chagrin - is her baking ability. It's probably a good thing though, because if I baked a cake that delicious every week I know that exactly zero of my trousers would fit by day 4.

Ultimately, I can think of few better role models in life - or in love. Did you know that she and my grandad have apparently 'never said a cross word to each other'. Try saying that without your fingers crossed behind your back, Grandma!

But all silliness aside, here's wishing the happiest of birthdays to my inimitable grandma. I love you very much and hope I'm half as much fun as you when I'm your age (and look half as good!)
