Life in Ruins

Don't worry - it's not a mid-life crisis (and even if it were I would rather hope it weren't a 'mid-life' crisis, but instead a 'still in her prime' crisis or an 'only a quarter of the way through' crisis, or something of that sort). Instead, the title of this post is a comment on my current activity - working out what I shall spend my travel award on. After leaving University I was awarded with a little bit of money on the proviso I spend it on travelling to somewhere with a classical value, to further my learning and continue my academic journey, etc. etc. So that is my latest venture - working out where my next adventure will be! My current thoughts are to travel to Crete and visit Knossos. I studied it a few years ago, but still know remarkably little about it. There's also something incredible about just how old it all is! Something you'd have thought I'd have gotten over by now. And on the plus side it'll be complimentary to my current light reading: 'The Rise and Fall of Ancient Egypt'. Quite the page-turner.
So as you can see my head is still in the ancient clouds, and my life still revolves around ruins, because a love of all things classical isn't something that just goes away. As geeky as that sounds (and christ it really does sound geeky - I hadn't quite realised!) I'll always want to learn more, see more, experience more. The ancient world is my oyster.
Before I get too cliche, let's whizz forward to the present. For those of you who live in the 21st Century will be pleased to know my keen interest in travel doesn't just involve the Mediterranean or the extents of the Roman Empire. No no! Barney and I will be travelling to Iceland to see the Northern Lights early 2019! So that's a bit of non-classical (although still rather ancient) magic!
So any advice, recommendations, comments, queries, observations or really any form of communication is very welcome. Fingers crossed I don't run into the Minotaur when I visit the labyrinth!
